What’s my Everyday Carry? (2022)

Every year, on YouTube or tech sites, you get to find out what is everyone’s everyday carry (EDC). Here’s what I carry and why I try to keep things simple.

For some people mentioning the phrase everyday carry (EDC) can throw up confusion, for other it makes a lot of sense, but normally EDC are items you carry on yourself on a day to basis.
This can vary for a lot of people, some carry a lot of items on them in various pockets, some people carry bags with them every day whether this be a messenger bag, satchel, sling bag or a proper backpack. Others like to travel light.

Though I carry a bag with me quite often it's only there to carry a bottle of water and carry any shopping and I don’t take it out frequently so will not be covering it in this article (perhaps next time….).

I tend to conform to the usual phone, wallet and keys but with the slight twist of adding a few other tech items that I can carry in my pocket rather than notebooks, pen’s etc.

My everyday carry

  1. Phone #1 – I currently daily drive a Huawei Mate 20 Pro, it’s the Chinese model, so I’m in a unique if odd place to be using a device that runs Harmony OS rather than Android. So far it has been plain sailing since I got the Harmony OS update, all my Apps from the Google Play Store and Fdroid still work. I got the phone back in 2019, and it has been pretty good. I don’t have plans to upgrade yet, as the camera continues to be fantastic on this phone, and it still performs well. I can’t deny, though, there have been a lot of new handsets that have tempted me though.
  2. Phone #2 – Wait, there’s a second phone? Yes there is. This phone is a much older phone. A Samsung A7 (2015). It's a real old phone running Android Marshmallow, but it’s still in mint condition. It was previously owned by my mum (hence the good condition) who moved onto a newer phone. I needed a new secondary phone to replace my Nokia 1 I previously used for work, so took this phone. It's quite outdated, but it is good for taking the odd picture, messaging colleagues, browsing Reddit and doubling up as a SAT Nav.
  3. Wallet – Like every guy, I carry a wallet, it’s a folding one I bought long ago. It's not much to shout about, but it's practical and useful.
  4. Keys – I carry my car keys and my keys to my home, nothing else and nothing more.
  5. Wireless earphones – Right now it’s the Mpow 30 ear buds, which I got on sale from Amazon. I noticed they aren’t listed there any more, but I’ve found them reliable, easy to use and charge quickly. They are inexpensive and are kinda like a poor man's Galaxy Buds. They are sufficiently good for my main purpose of listening to podcasts and music and fit well in my pockets.
  6. Wired earphones (Optional) – I don’t carry them every time, but I think they qualify for this list, as sometimes I forget to charge my wireless earphones and carry a cheap pair of sports earphones from an unknown brand that I don’t mind wrapping up and sticking in my pockets.

That’s my EDC. Sometimes I wish I could carry less, but on the odd occasion I’ve left my work phone behind, I’ve needed it. I don’t always want to be connected, so keeping work and personal life is important to me.

Some might argue that a wallet could be made smaller, but the amount of things I need to fit in there make it a little difficult. Yes, there are mobile pay options, but I guess I'm just a little old fashion and just some things don’t have a digital option.

I wonder if this will change over the year, or whether it will stay the same. We will just have to wait and see.
